Forest Creatures (2010)

This is the kind of film I go to Raindance to see. Dark and comic is an understatement.
In the same setting as "Severance" This is not a gore fest like it's predecessor but still has a high death count and comedy in a similar vein to my old Raindance favorite "BalCanCan". We follow 5 groups of people who intersect at different points in the story as we slowly learn the reason for the murders and the disastrous Advertising campaign that haunts the hero. A 2 hour film that just whizzes by.

State of Emergency (2010)

Very good, fast paced(ish) zombie fick with a difference. These "zombies" have something I've never seen in the genre before but I won't spoil it for you. minimal special effects put to good use and interesting human relationships. Worth watching.

Black Pond (2011)

The film makers seemed like nice people and I wish them well. But the only thing that stood out for me was Chris Langham's outstanding performance as a man who couldn't see his marriage was crumbling around him and seemed afterwards to be quitely accepting of it.
I couldn't see the point of the fake psychiatrist strand running through it as it didn't add to the story. In fact the character of the sister's friend seemed like it was either an after thought to pad out the script or two different scripts spliced together.

Tilva Ros (7)

I know what you mean, but I still found it more watchable than a lot of the boring American Mumblecore I've seen in recent years.
Tilva Ros (2010)

If JackAss were a drama film rather than documentary this would be it. Teenage skateboarders in a mining town in Serbia. Spend their time vidoeing themselves doing dangerous tricks for the internet and getting drunk while the town's workers protest at conditions in the mines,
.

A zöld sárkány gyermekei (2010)

Nice to see a Balkan film that doesn't focus on politics. A very enjoyable story about 3 lonely mix match characterswh find each other. I kept thinking this would make a good english language remake possibly with Colin Firth a Mate as Zoltan Ratoti does bear a resemblance.

Daca bobul nu moare (2010)

A beautifully shot film with allogorical special effects. Moments of great humor and terrible tragedy. Some of the meaning lost in translation for me. A little editing to bring the running time down would help. Overall a fine film.

Pankot ne e mrtov (2011)

One of my all time favorite films at Raindance was " Balcancan" from Macedonia. Which was darkly funny. This film was funny in places but also over long. Having seen "Shelter" (Bulgaria) yesterday it was interesting how this also showed punks as children who have never grown up and think they are invinclble until there luck runs out. Treating caring parents with indiference.

Podslon (2010)

Hilarious, dark, generation gap comedy. A kid who wants to hang out with older punks and brings them home expecting his parents to accept them. Mother is eager to please but Dad is angry and the dog is dying to go to the loo! Good use of old British punk music. At @Raindance last night.

Skinning (2010)

The main story of thischilling film is about how a quiet brainy kid can become a ruthless murdering monster but underlying this is the many levels of corruption in the police and government. Terrifying stuff!

Montevideo - Taste Of A Dream (2010)

A lovely feel good movie. 'mI not a football fan but this story of the struggle to create the first Yugoslavian national football team had me riveted and earned an ovation from the crowd at Raindance last night. Well deserved oscar nominated for next year's awards.

Caught the second half of "a Thousand Kisses Deep" wish I could have got there earlier. Hope it gets distribution. Great performances from Dougray Scott and Jodie Whittaker in this pychological time traveller. Totally class act from the lovely David Warner as always!
